Yesterday afternoon I hunted Louan solo. She has been out of heat for a week. We had an exciting hunt. She treed six and I killed four missed two. Needed Littlejohn. Them low brass shells just wouldn't knock em out of them tall trees. This is the best Louan has ever done so I took a picture on the tailgate. Yesterday was her 17 month birthday.

Lacy was hammering them today, I don't know what happened to her in the last week but she is really impressing me and my huntin buddy. She was tracking and treeing and I watch her wind a couple. We cut our hunt short cause my buddy didn't want to carry anymore and Cinders was flat wore out. My friend was amazed at how a dog could wind a squirrel up in a tree. I was going to take her back and get my money but I think I change my mind and may keep her awhile!

I told him to come by and I would see if I could help him fill his tag. He stopped in today around 12:30 PM and we headed out. Just as soon as we got in the area we spotted 8 elk about 1200 yds away. We got in a lil closer and glassed them. All 8 were bulls. We went on and spotted a single. Another darn bull. We went on. Spotted a heard of about 15. All bulls. Where are these bulls when you are hunting bulls. We went on and spotted 7 more elk over a raven. All bulls. We went on. Came around a curve in the road and elk were everywhere. Close to 60 of them were cows we guessed. Tom jumped of the Rhino and shot this nice cow at about 70 yds..
That was the easy part. She ran down th side of that hill and died. Man that hill was steeper than a mules face too. We hooked the winch and every cable we had to her and pulled her up on the road. I told him from now on shot the one that is already in the road.

Sterling Earhearts Buckley Jeb

Sterling Earheart of MtJuliet Tn. sent me this picture and hunting story about his Prick Eared Feist and him.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Went back to the lake this afternoon ended up with four and one hang up I couldn't get out. Ran out of shells shooting @ them timbering greys and had to quite early. Treed three more that I could get a shot at before they got to a den tree. I got it figured out, takes me three shells per squirrel.
Not a good picture but I can't get Jeb to pose.

Originally uploaded by lindakaybuckley
Em had no school today so we decided we would take us a squack hunt. After breakfast the wind picked up so we put it off until this afternoon.
While waiting we had one of our old SDC and hunting budies Kevin Conley stop by. We looked at dgs and sat on the couch and knocked out several. While Kevin was here the gate bell rang and it was another one of our SDC buddies Chris Stacy" groundhog' stoped in. He joned Kevin and me on he couch and we shot another 2 or 3 limits out and looked at the dogs again.
About 4:30 Em and me loaded Pncess up and took us a shot hunt. Things were slowat first and right at dark bam bam Princess threed 4 times and we saw two and knocked out this one to Princees. She made a perfect retrieve right to EM.
All the elk didn't get killed. We saw 7 going in and while we were taking this pic there 10 or 12 cows grasing about 45 yds behind EM. They were tamer than cattle and paid us no mind.

Bullet was doing a job yesterday that I think that you would have liked. He was treed every few minutes. Here is a clip of one of his trees. You can hear Daisy in the background. I have her tied back. It was not in a place where the squirrels are thick. There are some but they are not running all over the place

Cinders is really starting to range out and is using her nose great checking trees I think she treed on a few dens but didn't bark just was up on the wood checking them over real good. Oh Cinders got caught in a snare and was squealing like a pig I thought a coyote had he for a minute. Luckily it got her around the back legs and I was close and got her out quick. The guy is trying to catch the coyotes so I can't bitch to much about the snares-----------

I wish I had someone with me because I could have gotten more. I had some real good dog work . All three of the dogs got in on treeing and my Female Princess caught a full grown gray squack on the ground that hadn’t been shot at. I was really proud of Taz , he was blowing the tops of the trees out this afternoon. Ole Brownie is just like country music and can count on her being on every time out. I've been hunting my 15 month old Buckley dog (Taz X LT) pretty hard the last two weeks and he is really turning on. He has treed over 50 in the last 8-9 hunts I have had him out. Hunting him mostly by himself, I think he is going to be a nice dog. Made 5 trees on a short hunt tonight, saw 4, killed 3. Not a great picture, made with my phone. It was getting dark. Thanks for looking. Pat Evans.

Its hard to beat being out in the autumn woods hunting squirrels with a dog..

I always enjoy hearing hunting stories other are enjoying with their squirrel dogs.. Below is a hunt that Sterling Earheart shared with me yesterday hunting his young Buckley Mountain Feist dog and his 6 month old Galla Creek pup. Its hard to beat the enjoyment of seeing a pup tree its first squirrel.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Made a little hunt yesterday with Louan and Greta. Louan treed five times saw two missed one and the other one didn't give a shot.
But I have to tell Greta's story. Louan was off hunting, Greta was out in front of me she got excited and ran into a thicket and got after a squirrel timbered it through the thicket and into a big oak was jumping up on the tree so I shot it out. Squirrel hit the ground took off Greta right after it, it ran up another tree Greta grabbed it off tree and the chase was on. It finally got into a hollow log, but didn't get away Greta stayed with it till I got there and made a hole big enough for her to get to it. This is not the first squirrel she has worked but she did good really on this one. Here is a picture of Greta and her first wild squirrel on the tailgate. Today is her 6 month birthday.

5 1/2 months old, she treed and stayed until I could get a gun and shoot
it to her and man was she fired up when it hit the ground!...now when I
tell her to get the squirrel she flips a switch and charges out hunting
for something to be shot out to her, that's what good breeding will do,
and she is heading in the right direction. I'm gonna need a new pair of
